So What can I do?

I Love Photographing People!

And when looking for a photography, I know you have a lot of options here in Austin.
But consider your choices, do you really want a 'standard' photograph of you and your family in front of a normal backdrop and everyone in a 'normal' pose looking like every other family photograph - or would you rather have photographs that capture you in the moment? Would you rather have a photograph of your boys sitting there nicely poised, or would you like a bit of freedom and life in them? Do you want Photographs that you can look back at in 5, 10, 20 or even 30 years or more and say "Oh I remember that, we had such fun times back then ..."

That is the option I offer to you today, check out these blog posts to learn more:

And check out the full gallery featuring these twins. http://www.chrisfieldhouse.com/p187950751 Remember - this is what I would do for you and your family!

Since I consider myself to be an "aspiring professional", with an eye to becoming a full-time professional, my rates are very modest.

Family Portraits, Groups & Special Events

A 90 minute shoot is usually the most time we can expect a group of people to pose for and still get enough of those interesting group shoots.
While I like doing some of the more 'formal' poses, I also like to try and catch those whimsical moments that often happens within a group, capture the real family dynamic. A picture of a family laughing, the twins being rambunctious or a son hugging his elderly mother.

Or an engagement picture?

For Location, it can be at your home, an outdoor venue, or a studio (extra cost).
For Studio work, there are studios that I prefer to use, but as with any details regarding planning a photoshoot, the client always has the final say.

About the Sample images:

  • Here we have two pictures from the twins "Joshua & Ethan". They are such a rambunctious and creative pair that a standard formal pose would not have done them justice. But here you can see their dynamic energy (and the love that they have for each other as brothers)

  • plus their desire to try something unique & creative, so I wanted to convey that even tho they are twins, they are both equal and different.

  • Finally St Davids Episcopal Church in Downtown Austin, wanted new photos of their Sunday Evening Compline Choir. So instead of posing them, it was really important to capture the tranquil serenity of the service. So I simply attended their pre-service rehearsal and carefully took the photographs without disturbing them while they practiced, and selecting those pictures that were both dramatic and provided the congregations view of the choir!

For a 1 hour Event shoot, I spend an additional 2 hours (or more) reviewing & post processing the best photos for the client to select from. This extra level of work, is part of my commitment to the client to ensure that they get the best.

The Package:

A consultation prior to the shoot, the discuss your vision, any absolute must-haves, etc. - the last thing we want to have happen is to not get that photo of Grandma, mom and daughter now do we...

After the shoot when a selection of images are available, you will be able to select up to 8 Fully Edited Digital images from the Group Portrait Shoot, with the option to purchase additional images.

Individual Portrait Session

An Individual Portrait session is more than just a "headshot" with bells on... Whereas a headshot session is very constrained by just doing poses and backdrops, while keeping the post processing to a minimum with just colour, lighting and tone corrections. For a full portrait session we have more flexibility in what we can do, both poses, clothing, location and style - in fact everything!

Not only can we do themes, we can discuss any desired post-processing, such as sephia tone, or aging (check out some of the aged images from the Civil War era Ball gallery).

So if you are looking for something more than just a headshot, maybe a senior yearbook photograph that talks about you, maybe a really awesome Jacket Cover picture for that Novel you're writing, or you are an aspiring actor/model and need something interesting for your portfolio - then this is the best option for you! Be creative, let me help you stand out, while still having fun!!

About the Sample images:

  • Reviewing the props and costumes available to Jacob, we were inspired to try a few images based on Oscar Wildes story "Dorian Grey". We got some great shots of him, but the studio we were at, the cat would not leave him alone, and he kept fussing her. So in the end we also got this one of Jacob with the cat. Other pictures with Jacob can be found in the Portraiture gallery.

  • Evan - loved posing behind the hanging frame. And to make it even more stunning the colour saturation and tones were adjusted to the point we both liked it. This image of Evan would actually be stunning if printed onto laminated metal for a piece of wall art!

  • Chetan is an aspiring model, and during his consultation he expressed in interest in "Film Noir", so among the many concept we worked with was this image of a 'Private Investigator' on the job. I was able to provide an old film camera and the blinds as props.
Also among his images, he was going for a steam-punk inspired theme, one of the images came out too dark, but since this was a portrait session, I was able to be very creative and add some Sci-Fi feel to the image by applying some effect. If you are a fan of "Doctor Who" - you will recognise the image and the episode that inspired it. If you can't work it out, just ask me ...
Chetan's other pictures can be found in his client gallery.

  • This is my wife Marjean. I had found that a particular old flash-gun I had will produce some stunning "High Key" effects. We both love this picture.

For a 1 hour Portrait shoot, I spend an additional 2 hours (or more) reviewing & post processing the best photos for the client to select from. This extra level of work, is part of my commitment to the client to ensure that they get the best.

A consultation prior to the shoot, the discuss your vision, any absolute must-haves, etc. including any special Post processing ideas that you have...

After the shoot when a selection of images are available, you will be able to select up to 10 Fully Edited Digital images from the Individual Portrait Shoot, with the option to purchase additional images.

Capturing that Unique or Special Occasion

RecitalRecitalAuditioning for Music school

Do you want some dramatic shoots of your latest skateboarding tricks?

Part of an Amateur Dramatics production and want some publicity pictures?

Why limit ourselves, the more interesting it is, the more fun we can have. So what are you waiting for, lets see what we can do together shall we?

For Location, it can be at your home, an outdoor venue, or a studio (extra cost)

About the Sample images:

  • As part of Ellen's application to a prestigious Fine Arts Music School, she was required to perform a private recital for a small audience. The recital itself had to be recorded, but her parents wanted the perfect picture for the DVD cover that they would submit with her application, as well as something to remember the recital. As always, posing her would not have given us anything to remember that special day. Instead I asked her what her favourite piece was and if she could play it for me. It was quite an energetic piece, but more importantly, we could see that Ellen went back into 'the zone' of concentration. With a bit of post-processing helped to bring out her intense movement as she played the Cello!

  • Civil War costumes in a museum! I had not planned to photograph this event, but instead attend as a participant, but I couldn't resist taking the camera. The event turned into an impromptu April Fools Victorian Flash Crowd, and not wanting to disturb anyone's enjoyment of the event, it was important to be discreet, and yet capture the wonder of the event.

  • St Davids Episcopal Church Austin, TX. A second shoot with the Choir during rehearsal.

- the last thing we want to have happen is to not get the right photo of the boys dressed as various incarnations of 'Doctor Who' so that we can work in some interesting effects in Post production...

After the shoot when a selection of images are available, you will be able to select up to 10 Fully Edited Digital images from the Event Shoot, with the option to purchase additional images.

Photography for Pets (the other family members)

For a detailed description of what is involved in doing Pet Photography, visit https://www.chrisfieldhouse.com/pets

About the Sample images:

  • A very old Photo from the early 1980's taken by me when I was a mere 17 years old!
My family used to show Cats, "Colourpoint Persians" (Better known as "Himalayan's" in the U.S.). When I recently found this photo, I was so happy because she was my favourite show cat, but also I was blown away by just how good it was...
  • The next pair of Photographs are of my cat 'Phoebe' when she was 15, she ultimately lived to 18 before time finally caught up with her. We had always joked that from the day we adopted her, she was very much a "Daddy's Little Girl" and this first photo captures (I hope) the affection between a cat and their person.

  • While the prior Photo of me holding Phoebe was sweet and adorable, and showed just how much she was a great companion, the next photo is more about her fiesty character. While she was a loving thing, when it came to other cats in the house - she could be a bit cantancerous to say the least.
In this case, as she was posing on the chair, being the absolutely well behaved professional - when one of the other cats wandered in, she was non too pleased at having her photoshoot interrupted - afterall this was her photoshoot!
So we improvised, picked up the other cat, (hey if they are going to walk thru the middle of a photoshoot, they might as well be useful) and with camera at the ready; caught this "Sod off! This is my photoshoot!" moment. The mouth full open hissing, while ears upright and paws tucked under is the perfect reminder of what an old grumpy fusspot she could be!

  • Often the best photos are when they are in their natural environment and allowed to interact on their terms.
In this case, on a warm spring day in the garden, just hanging out and lounging in a tree (after a hard morning chasing squirrels) was when we caught this huntress!
    Cats do enjoy life!

  • And sitting in an open window.
On a nice sunny day, this quiet lady just enjoys sitting in an open window. And that is exactly where he wanted his photo to be taken - and I am not one to argue when a cat tells you how they want their picture taken!
Don't we all wish we can enjoy summer evenings like this.

  • A rescue King Charles Spaniel waiting patiently for a treat!
Working with her owner to have her looking up to show off her profile and rich coloration of the King Charles markings.
To capture the sweet joy and anticipation of a treat from her person - that is what makes doing pet photography worth while!

The Package:

When discussing a shoot for the furry members of the family, a consultation prior to the shoot to meet them IS A REQUIREMENT, but there is NO CHARGE for the initial consultation session.

Landscape & Wildlife Prints

The Bifrost Bridge over AlaskaThe Bifrost Bridge over Alaska Blue IceBlue Ice Anchored at DawnAnchored at Dawn

All of the Prints in the "Landscape", "Urban Beauty" and "Wildlife" Galleries are available for purchase.

I am still setting up the Print Sales sections, so please be patient, but if there is a print you want, even a digital version, then please contact me...

About the Sample images:

Here are a few of my favourite landscape/nature prints I have available (picking just 4 was difficult).

  • At the top we have "The Bifrost Bridge over Alaska" taken September 1 2016 on vacation in Alaska when a significant CME (Corona Mass Ejection) struck the atmosphere creating this spectacular Aurora display.
We have this printed onto lacquered metal. The finish gives it a very 3D quality to it and as you adjust your viewing angle, you can almost perceive movement.

  • A stunning sample of Blue-Ice from a glacier, we so wanted to put some of it in a Gin & Tonic, but couldn't find a glass big enough. Also taken September 2016

  • "Anchored at Dawn", July 2013, a foggy morning in Monterrey California. I wanted to convey a timeless quality and make the viewer wonder 'when' was the picture taken.

  • Finally 4th of July fireworks over Austin TX, 2013

There are more Art Prints available, and I am currently constructing a gallery and price list...

Contact me directly to purchase an existing Print.

Not only would we discuss the print details, what dimensions etc. I will also work with you on the best way to display the image.

As an example: "the Bifrost Bridge over Alaska" on glossy film stock stunning, its nothing compared to how deep and reach the image is on lacquered metal. It has a 3D quality to it..
